Dr. Uyen Thompson recently became a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists—two of the most respected and prestigious dental organizations in the world.
Chula Vista, CA – Dr. Uyen Thompson is a strong believer in the idea that, in order for dentists to provide patients with the best possible care, they must spend as much time as possible pursuing continuing dental education. Dr. Thompson, a dentist in Chula Vista and the head of Thompson Center for Dentistry, says additional training and education throughout a dentist’s career can help them remain at the forefront of the latest advances in dental treatments and techniques, ultimately affording patients with more comfortable, efficient, and effective procedures. Recently, Dr. Thompson’s commitment to continuous dental education earned her Fellowship status in the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI), which are two of the most highly-regarded organizations in the field of dentistry.
For a dentist to be named a Fellow of the AGD, he or she must complete at least 500 hours of approved continuing education and pass a strict Fellowship exam. Dr. Thompson is one of only 6% of general dentists who have earned Fellowship with the AGD.
In addition to her FAGD status, Dr. Thompson’s extensive post-graduate training and experience in the field of implant dentistry helped her achieve the Fellowship award with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. For this distinction, dentists must have completed at least 100 hours of implant education, provide a list of 20 completed dental implant procedures, and accumulate an additional 100 hours or more of implant education in the five years after Fellowship status has been granted.
Dr. Thompson’s pursuit of dental education in excess of the standard requirements for individuals to practice dentistry has taken her to prestigious institutions such as the Kois Center, the Spear Education Center, the Pankey Institute, and the California Implant Institute. Dr. Thompson says this has had a direct and beneficial impact on patients at her practice, who are able to obtain a variety of advanced types of dental treatment under one roof, without the need to be referred to other offices. Dr. Thompson notes that the ability to provide high-quality care for such a wide range of dental needs can make the treatment process more convenient and efficient for patients. Overall, she says, her AGD and ICOI Fellowship distinctions can serve as signposts for patients, letting them know they can feel confident that the care Dr. Thompson provides is based on a strong foundation of knowledge, training, experience, and extensive education.
